On the basis of army GAZ-64 and GAZ-67B easy double armored cars BА-64 (since the end of 1941) and BА-64B (since autumn 1942) were produced by Izhorsky factory. They were developed by designer V. A. Grachyov. BА-64 was developed at the end of 1941, and in the spring 1942 its mass manufacture was begun, and in the summer new cars took part in fights on Bryansk and Voronezh fronts.
The basis was made with the welded body with armored sheets which had a significant inclination. Despite of their small thickness (from 4 up to 15 mm), it was very bullet-proof thanking ricocheting. The car was made maximum compact. The driver sat on the center, and the commander he was also shooter, behind and above. The engine with power 50 h .p. provided speed up to 80 km/h. Manufacture proceeded till 1945. Then BА-64B was removed from arms. In total about 8 thousand cars was made.
